Details

The fantail, or piwakawaka, is one of New Zealand's smallest native birds, known for its fan shaped tail and quick, fluttering flight as it catches insects mid-air. This canvas print by NZ artist Sophie Blokker captures one perched on a branch in her bold, layered style, with built in LED backlighting behind the piece.

By day it's a striking canvas print. By evening, switch on the light and it takes on a softer, glowing mood that a plain canvas can't match. The light is touch operated and runs on 3 AA batteries, so there's no need to be near a power point.

This isn't a printed effect, it's a genuine light source built into the frame, designed to be used every evening, not just admired once.

At 300 x 300mm it's compact enough to sit on its own on a smaller wall, in a hallway, or as one piece within a gallery grouping alongside our other Sophie Blokker LED canvases.

    Love it!

The fantail is a favourite bird of ours and this canvas print doesn't disappoint. Love the point of difference with the kowhai artwork on the body. The LED is subtle but brings another dimension to the print, especially as it has been placed in a hallway away from bright light so the LED lifts the picture.
