INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS OF 2021 – WHAT’S IN AND WHAT’S OUT

2020 saw us using our homes for various reasons – work from home, zoom meetings, online schooling, kids’ playground, indoor gym. Hence the design trends this year have also shifted towards more durability, sustainability and comfort.

Here I have curated what some designers say what’s in and what’s out in home design and decorating trends this year.

Textured walls are definitely in.

And there are many emerging ways to add texture to your space. “Tile, plaster, rattan, or living walls of plants are set to become more popular in 2021”.

Minimalistic décor, all white walls will be out.

“Those looking to give their all-white interiors more pizzazz without adding bright colors can try combining different light-colored patterns and textures”.

Accent walls will be going out too.

They were very trendy as they made a space interesting. But it looks like it will slowly fade away. “Accent walls can look childish and be too distracting, we’ll hopefully be returning to monochromatic walls that blend seamlessly with the decor without the startling drama of an accent wall."

Instead, peel and stick wallpapers will be in.

Easy to use and perfect as a low-commitment upgrade your living space. They are self-adhesive and easy to remove, making them the popular trend for 2021. Let your creativity run wild will these peel-and-stick wallpapers and once you are tired of it, simply peel it off.

Wood and metal are in.

The industrial look which consists of high ceilings, wood and metal elements are trending this year. This easy-to-maintain and fuss-free style is being more popular this year as people are continuing to spend more time at home.

Wicker and Rattan furniture will also be in.
